Hi everyone,
In today’s blog post, I’m writing about my lip filler journey.
The Injector
Last year, I had my lips done by my amazing trainer Dr Jasmin, who trained me in lip filler at masterclass level and taught me everything I know about creating beautiful, natural-looking results. I was fortunate to have my lips done free of charge because I was a model for one of her educational videos.
For people interested in getting lip filler, it is so important to choose a practitioner who tailors the treatment to your anatomy instead of using the same one-size-fits-all “signature technique” on every patient.
Anatomy Matters
My personal anatomy is class II division 2 with naturally thin lips, a mild M-shape and a prominent upper central tubercle. In simple terms, this means that I have a shortened and recessed lower face, my upper lip looks like the letter “M“ and my middle upper lip projects forwards. Therefore I need lower lip projection to balance everything out, and I must not have any filler in the upper middle portion - otherwise i would look like a duck from the side!
I had 0.6ml injected in total which was the perfect amount for me. I recommend going to a cosmetic doctor who does not let you choose the amount of mls to inject, and instead assesses your face and injects a suitable amount that fits your anatomy.
The Procedure
Photos were taken, numbing cream was applied and we went through my medical history and the treatment plan. After I signed the consent form, the injecting began. When I looked in the mirror straight after, I was already so happy with my results even though I knew I was swollen which is normal.
The Recovery
It takes two weeks for the swelling to subside before the final healed results are seen. I made sure to avoid excessive heat and exercise for 24 hours after. I used ice packs to help with swelling and arnica cream to help with bruising which settled after one week (these things are included in the aftercare bag when patients come to Avena Clinic).
Conclusion
Overall I’m very happy with my decision, they feel like my lips but better, they're more in proportion to my face and it has given me such a confidence boost. It’s been nearly a year now since I got them done and it’s lasted this whole time.
I’ve uploaded a YouTube video where you can see video clips of the procedure, what my lips looked like when they were bruised and swollen and the final healed results.
